A Step Towards Sustainability
Dubai’s Ban on Single-Use Plastics
As of January 1, 2025, Dubai has officially implemented a ban on several single-use plastic items, marking a significant milestone in its journey towards sustainability. With this move, the city is fostering eco-friendly practices and encouraging a culture of reuse and recycling, while also reducing its plastic waste footprint.
At EcoBliss, we applaud Dubai’s progressive steps and are committed to supporting this transition by providing sustainable, biodegradable alternatives to single-use plastics. Here’s why making the switch to eco-friendly products is more than just a choice—it’s a responsibility.
What Items Are Banned in Dubai?
Dubai Municipality has outlined several items that are now prohibited, including:
- Single-use Styrofoam cups
- Plastic cotton swabs
- Plastic table covers
- Plastic straws
- Styrofoam food containers
- Plastic stirrers
These bans build on the existing prohibition of single-use bags, which has been in effect since June 2024. The final phase of this initiative, set for January 2026, will extend the ban to plastic cups, lids, cutlery, plates, and additional food containers.
The Push for Sustainable Alternatives
The Executive Council Resolution No. (124) of 2023, led by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, emphasizes the importance of reducing single-use plastic waste. Businesses are now required to participate in this effort by offering reasonably priced, reusable alternatives and adopting practices aligned with a circular economy to ensure sustainable recycling.
Why Shift to Eco-Friendly Products?
Plastic waste has long been a global environmental challenge. Single-use plastics, which take centuries to decompose, contribute to pollution and harm wildlife. By choosing sustainable products like those from EcoBliss, you help:
